COMEDK UGET 2011 Results
Monday, June 06, 2011: The Under Graduate Entrance Test, the qualifying test for private quota seats in professional colleges, has always had more applicants from outside Karnataka.

However, though the State accounted for only 26 per cent of applicants, no less than 86 per cent of the top 100 engineering ranks and 73 per cent of the top 100 medical ranks were bagged by students from Karnataka.

Among the top 10 medical rankers, led by Prerana V., nine medical ranks were bagged by Karnataka students, while only two non-Karnataka students made it to the engineering top 10. However, the engineering first rank was bagged by Arjun Rao from Mumbai.

Of the 62,529 candidates who appeared for the COMED-K exam, 42,258 candidates qualified for engineering stream and 8,034 candidates for medical and dental streams.

More engineering seats
This year, under the COMED-K quota, 566 medical seats, 948 dental seats, 18,137 engineering seats and 165 architecture seats are on offer. The engineering seats are up from 15,037 last year, primarily due the changes in seat matrix (where the private quota has increased from 35 to 40 per cent), and due to some additional seats sanctioned by the AICTE, officials said.

Better exam
Addressing media persons COMED-K officer Srikanth S. said that the changes in pattern in the UGET made the exam a far better test of the students' potential. “Several questions were included this year to improve the standard of the examination. This included many questions that tested the comprehension skills and analytical ability of the candidates,” said Dr. Kumar, executive secretary of the COMED-K. He also said that while the COMED-K received a total of 150 ‘challenges' – questioning the validity or perceived errors in some question – 12 were admitted.

On the consensual agreement, authorities said that colleges are getting set to sign the consensual agreement and final details are being worked out.
